Manitoba Outstanding Young Farmers Offers Bursary in Honour of Major Jay Fox

Major Jay FoxThe Manitoba Outstanding Young Farmers have announced the Major Jay Fox Memorial scholarship in honour of Major Jay and the contribution that he made to agriculture in Canada.

Major Jay Fox died suddenly at the age of 32 in December of 2011. A 4-H alumni, family man, rancher and dedicated agriculture enthusiast, Fox valued a thriving rural community and believed strongly in the importance of youth returning to the farm and their communities.

An annual scholarship of $500 in Major Jay Fox’s name will be presented to recognize a student continuing in the field of agriculture that has made a significant difference in their community. Those applying must use the bursary within two years and be 17 as of January 1. 2014 to be eligible. Those applying must submit a 500 word (maximum) typed essay stating their future goals in agriculture and “In your opinion, what could be done to retain a larger number of young people in agriculture in Manitoba (Canada)”. Proof of enrollment in a recognized school will be required, with a list of community involvement and two letters of reference.

The following criteria have been developed and applications must be received no later than June 2, 2014. All applications can be sent to Manitoba Outstanding Young Farmers, c/o Angie Fox, General Delivery, Eddystone, MB, R0L 0S0

Completed applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on June 2, 2014. Winners will be notified and the award will be presented at the following Outstanding Young Farmers Regional Event.
