Equal Representation and the Differences in Gender Leadership

“We are not where we need to be or should be,” says Linda Hohol, Calgarian and corporate director on Boards of Export Development Canada, NAV Canada, Ellis Don Construction and Canadian Western Bank.

The gender gap in Canadian business and politics is certainly closing, but we still have more work to do to encourage and support female leadership. Positions above mid-level management are not yet 50:50, says Hohol, who says part of the reason is because employers tend to hire those who are like themselves. In many instances, this means hiring men.

In this video, Hohol speaks to equal representation in Canada, the differences that generally exist between men and women and advice for understanding and overcoming gender barriers.
