The Crop Potential and Management of Hybrid Fall Rye

If you like winter wheat, you just might love fall rye. For those of you who already have experience with fall rye, you just might love hybrid rye even more.

Recently, farmers and agronomists near Lethbridge, Alta., were treated to a look at modern fall rye production, including a full introduction to the new hybrid fall rye variety being introduced to Canada via FP Genetics.

Jamie Larsen, of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, based at Lethbridge, was on-hand to give us the rundown on how fall rye management differs from other cereals, just how cold tolerant the crop is, what farmers should pencil in for inputs and what a hybrid line may mean for fall rye growers. Watch this video for that, plus a look at the new fall rye lines working in Canada.
