An Open Fall or a Quick End? A Harvest Weather Update for Western Canada

David Phillips, senior climatologist with Environment Canada, is not going to predict the first frost of the fall, so let’s just get that out of the way right now. As he says in the interview below, an over-arching weather trend says nothing about occasional frosts — that’s what averages are for — so the date of a killing frost is anyone’s guess.

While that may not be the most helpful weather outlook ever, Phillips does have some much better news for many areas of the Canadian Prairies. Growing degree days have largely caught up, hail storms and extreme weather is (likely) finally done and the latest models are showing good news for the harvest season for much of Western Canada. Hear the outlook below!
