Saskatchewan Launches Farm & Food Care Chapter; Hosting "Farms at the Table" Event

by

Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan is set to serve up “menus of opportunity and food for thought” at its official launch event coming up next week.

Joe Kleinsasser, Interim Board Chair for Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan, has been immersed in the formation of the new organization. “Farm & Food Care presents tremendous opportunities to connect farmers with consumers. With less than 2% of people in Canada having a direct link to the farm these days, it is important for us to let people know that agriculture in the province is a dynamic, vibrant and technologically advanced industry. Those of us who are intimately involved in food production in the province want consumers to know that we take great pride in producing food that is nutritious and safe to eat.”

SlideShow-Burger-Conference1-resized-image-1050x410Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan will host an industry launch entitled “Farms at the Table: Menus for Opportunity,” December 10-11, 2014, at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel in Saskatoon. The two-day event will kick off with a workshop on communicating with consumers and networking within the industry on December 10.

Facilitators include:

  • Mike Klein whose presentation “Getting the Dirt on Digital – Earning Attention in a Time-Crunched World” will help participants navigate through the maze of digital tools and their implications and applications for the agriculture industry.
  • Dennis Prouse of CropLife Canada who will be speaking on “De-mystifying the World of Lobbying”.
  • Kelly Daynard, Farm & Food Care Ontario, whose “Speak Up” training will focus on how to get the message of modern-day agriculture out to consumers.

Presenters and topics on the second day of the conference includes:

  • Rob Saik, CEO Agri-Trend Inc., and author of The Agriculture Manifesto – Non-Science and Food Paranoia;
  • Kelly Daynard, Communications Manager, Farm & Food Care Ontario – Getting the Real Dirt on Farming;
  • Carrie Mess (Dairy Carrie), Blogger and U.S. Social Media Farmer of the Year – Welcome to the World of Agvocacy; and
  • Dr. Joe Schwarcz, Director, Office of Science and Technology, McGill University – Agricultural Myths and Facts

The launch will see the Farm Animal Council of Saskatchewan transition into the new Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan, modelled off the Ontario-based organization launched in 2012.

The earlybird deadline for the launch is December 5, 2014, and will save attendees $73.50.
