Peter Johnson will be the first to tell you he’s not retiring — he’s just retiring from his role as cereal specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. So while we won’t be completely rid of Wheat Pete, as he’s known, his departure from the ministry still deserves a send-off befitting Ontario’s Wild Man of Agriculture.
At last weekend’s FarmSmart conference, Ian McDonald, OMAFRA’s Field Crops Applied Research Coordinator, toasted Peter with a short but sweet look back at the 30 year career of a man no one would soon forget, even if he was actually retiring from field work (which, again, he’s not.)
Without further ado, we give you the Wheat Pete tribute from FarmSmart, including perhaps the most fitting acceptance speech imaginable.
