Farmers Edge Acquires Lethbridge-Based GranDuke Geomatics

by

Winnipeg-based precision agriculture and data management company Farmers Edge announced Wednesday that it has acquired GranDuke Geomatics, a geospatial software development company based in Lethbridge.

Founded by Guy Duke and Kevin Grant in 2012, GranDuke Geomatics, with the assistance of the National Research Council, offers customized software for geospatial applications in precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, and oil and gas.

Fertilizer and field maps developed by GranDuke are part of the products Farmers Edge offers customers.

“This acquisition is the culmination of a lot of hard work and late evenings providing Farmers Edge with rapid software development and quick product turn-around times for their data analysis and mapping,” said Guy Duke in a news release from Farmers Edge.

The release says the 22 employees with GranDuke will continue to provide advanced GIS and yield data processing services for Farmers Edge.

“We’re really excited about the acquisition of GranDuke Geomatics because they bring an outstanding software engineering team and valuable Ag technology IP to the table. We are now incorporating this IP into our decision support tools that bring all the information together to make a meaningful impact on production,” stated Wade Barnes, President and CEO of Farmers Edge.

Terms of the acquisition were not released.

The acquisition of GranDuke Geomatics comes on the heels of several other announcements for Farmers Edge. The company recently announced an agreement with BlackBridge to expand their use of high-resolution satellite imagery, as well a deal with Capital Power in Alberta to develop carbon offsets eligible for Alberta’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Program by implementing improved nitrogen fertilizer management practices.
