Precision Planting's vDrive Insecticide in Beta Production for Spring 2015

Many farmers will be familiar with vDrive, a technology that allows each planter to be controlled and monitored independently. The result, powered by a 12-volt motor, is variable rate planting, that accounts for real-time changes in speed (including around corners).

On January 21 of this year, Precision Planting announced the same technology would be used for granular insecticide through an application deemed vDrive Inseciticide.

“Farmers applying insecticide today calibrate their meter for a single speed,” Luke Stuber, vDrive insecticide engineer said in a release. “As operators speed up, slow down or plant around curves, the intended application rate is impossible to maintain. And, as high speed planting is now a reality with SpeedTube, the insecticide system needs to keep pace.”

In this video, filmed at the National Farm Machinery Show, Shaun Haney catches up with Precision Planting’s Paul Harms to re-visit vDrive technology and hear about the new machine.

vDrive Insecticide is in beta production for spring of 2015.
