Newspapers of late seem to be drenched with neonicotinoids, often blaming the now well-known active ingredient for declining bee populations.

Here in Canada, between 2013 and 2014, the beekeeping industry actually experienced some impressive growth, with increases in beekeepers, colonies, honey production and value (Statistics Canada). Yet, even if we ignore the debate around pesticides, there are still some pretty incredible challenges facing beekeepers and their livestock.

In this interview, filmed at CanoLAB in Olds, Eric Stromgren, a beekeeper and beekeeping instructor, shows us four of the greatest challenges facing colonies today.
