Some of the most useful tools on the farm are also those with the lowest number of wires. While sophisticated soil mapping tools and software exist, the lowly soil probe still has a significant role to play on the farm.
In this video, Bernard Tobin heads down to Ridgetown, Ontario, to tour a few fields with Ontario ministry of agriculture’s Anne Verhallen. With soil probe in hand, Verhallen, a soil specialist, scouts a few fields to show us the visual differences above ground and what that translates to below.
From there, Verhallen explains how you can use the information gleaned from a soil probe to make observations, gauge soil moisture, measure soil health, and evaluate your irrigation management.
