John Deere’s new ProCut technology won the company a gold medal in innovation at Agritechnica in Hanover, Germany this year. The technology revolves around sensors incorporated in the shearbar on self-propelled forage harvesters.

“The ProCut really is on-the-go measurement of the condition of the knife, and of the distance [between the] shear bar and knife,” John Deere’s Johannes Zametzer told RealAgriculture.

The system alerts operators when it’s time to adjust the counterblade and sharpen the knives, while also recommending the number of grinds to apply.
