A Very TWORA Christmas

A special(?) holiday edition of TWORA:

‘Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the land
RealAggies (or Agros?) were thinking about the year we’ve had
Not our regular podcast this week, not the same TWORA,
We’re looking back on 15 — officially, the year of our soil
So as the stockings are hung by the chimney with care,
Here’s a very serious news broadcast on the events of this year…
To start there’s a drought in the West, or so we were told
Some reseeding from frost, but still a decent crop was grown
While visions of 6 dollar corn and higher wheat danced in our heads,
Prices not what they once were, but for lentils — especially reds
Oh, cattle and pigs too, they went for a slide
Except in the store, “bacon for Christmas? A grand yuletide”
COOL is not cool, again, said the WTO
Sorry, not sorry, said Canada, threatening to strike back a blow
Harper and Ritz, no longer the authoritative pair,
Instead there’s MacAulay and Justin, the guy with nice hair
Before they left though, they followed through on their deal
To sell the wheat board, CWB’s fate was sealed
In came G3, GrainCorp, Scoular and CHS
“We can buy and sell your crops,” they professed
Speaking of wheat, how ’bout that ‘wild man’ Johnson?
His word is online now, you can always learn somethin
I sprang from my seat wondering why he was yelling
What’s the matter with you people, why are you tilling?
And then, in a twinkling, or more like a thud, things were turned upside down
Alberta voted orange? What’s this world come to now?
Premier Wynne meanwhile won in her quest for new limits
On how Ontario farmers farm and their use of seed treatments
Back in the West, we heard the sound of a squall
‘Twas the angry roar of the crowd at a Bill 6 townhall.
Before that we saw Holstein milkers marching the Hill
Farmers can speak loudly, and if you make us, we will.
Plenty was said about the big TPP trade deal.
Will it be Hillary or Trump who decide if it’s real?
From TechTour Live on the road to the farm kitchen table
Here’s to another year of good times, good food and good people
That’s it, that’s all…or as Yoda Tom Wolf would say, later, see you
A Merry Christmas too all, and a happy new year, too.
