GSI Dryers Get Hi-Tech Retrofit

by

If you are looking to upgrade your farm’s drying capabilities for 2016 you can always buy the latest model dryer – or just go retro.

Real Agriculture caught up with GSI’s Conditioning Applications Manager Gary Woodruff at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Kentucky to discuss what’s new in the company’s grain storage and conditioning equipment, as well as the growing importance of retrofitting.

All of GSI’s new dryer products come together in an interesting way, explains Woodruff. “If you have one of our systems – 2005 or newer portable dryer, or a TopDry or a tower dry system – all of these new products can be retrofitted to your system and improve your overall performance and efficiency.”

Woodruff explains that the Assumption, Illinois-based company has added a new Vision Network dryer controller that makes dryer start-up much easier. “No matter what the grain is – if you are running corn, soybeans, flax, canola – you just select the right product and it puts in all the right information so you are ready to roll. You then tell it the incoming moisture and the outgoing moisture and it handles that process for you automatically.”

Woodruff notes that the Vision Network controller now offers English and 12 additional languages. “It really doesn’t matter what language you speak, we have a good interface for you.”

The TopDry system has been computerized since 1994. But a new, advanced TopDry system incorporates a touch screen and comes standard with the WatchDog remote dryer monitor system that allows producers to remotely monitor and control their dryer from any web accessible device. “It gives a much better view of what’s going on with the dryer, controls anything on the dryer, and makes sure the moisture control is running correctly,” says Woodruff. He notes that the system is retrofittable to any TopDry GSI has ever built.

GSI has added a larger back door to their portable dryer series for easier and safer access, and also re-engineered the sampling system for easier and more accurate calibration. There are also tower dryer modifications that can be retrofit for previous models.
