North American farmers got their first look at the new Massey Ferguson 5700SL Series mid-range tractors at the National Farm Machinery Show last month in Louisville, Kentucky.
The 5700SL tractors include three models, ranging from 110 to 130 HP, with the 5713SL model claiming the 2016 Tractor of the Year award in the utility category at Agritechnica in Germany last fall.
AGCO field marketing manager Blane Clark took Real Agriculture for a tour of the tractor after the North American unveiling. He explained that each of the three new models is equipped to work in compact spaces and offers the power, maneuverability, comfort and performance needed for efficient loader work, hay production and general on-farm use.
The 5700SL will continue to offer the steep nose hood design. “It gives great visibility to the loader which is why I think this is the best loader/tractor combination in the industry,” says Clark. “The cab is really a high horse power cab on a mid-range chassis. It’s a lot larger so it’s helping with comfort but also visibility. When stacking bales you can actually see through the roof to the loader.”
There’s also excellent forward visibility thanks to the 5700 cab’s six-post design and narrow cross-section. The above-cab visibility comes from an optional Visio Roof. The size of the 5700SL cab is identical to the Massey Ferguson 7700 Series. The dash features an easy-to-read digital display plus a new set-up and information screen (SIS). The easy-to-navigate, coloured SIS screen is 50% larger with 10-times greater resolution than the dash control centre on previous models. SIS provides simple, push-button set up and adjustment of tractor functions.
A new SpeedSteer option lets the operator adjust the steering ratio for more or fewer turns of the steering wheel, making loader and headland turns faster and easier. Rear-mounted PTO engagement means fewer trips in and out of the cab to connect and operate the PTO. There’s also convenient, push-button access to quickly stop the PTO.
Powered by a 4.4L four-cylinder AGCO Power diesel engine, the 5700SL tractor has also retained a number of popular features from the 5600 series tractors, including the Dyna-4TM transmission with 16 forward and 16 reverse speeds for versatile, smooth shifting.
The Auto-Guide 3000 automated-steering system is optional for farmers looking to reduce overlap and save time during field operations. With an easy, intuitive user interface, Blane says the Auto-Guide 3000 really helps reduce fatigue during long days working in the field.
What does Blane like most about the 5700SL? “The number one feature for me is the multi-function blue joystick. Not only does it operate the loader, but now I can shuttle forward and reverse and I can also go through the speeds on the transmission.”
