Univar Buys Fertilizer Distributor Nexus Ag

by

Crop input distributor Univar has acquired Saskatoon-based fertilizer wholesaler Nexus Ag.

Founded in 1997, Nexus operates six regional warehouses, selling micronutrients, specialty fertilizers, potash, phosphates, and liquid and soluble nutrients, including products under its own brands YieldMax and Nexus.

“As a recognized leader in the fertilizer business in Western Canada, the addition of Nexus Ag to the Univar family enhances our existing macronutrient and crop protection inputs by adding a proprietary line of micronutrients, macronutrients, and specialty fertilizers,” said Mike Hildebrand, president, Univar Canada, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition comes on the heels of Univar’s purchase last fall of Future Transfer and BlueStar Distribution, who specialized logistics, warehousing, packaging, and formulation services for the agriculture industry. The deal included six locations, four in Ontario and two in Manitoba.

With the addition of Nexus Ag, Univar Agriculture’s network now includes 16 facilities in four provinces with more than 1.2 million square feet of warehouse space.
