If you have been to an agricultural meeting in the last seven years you have likely heard a presentation on advocacy. In both the US and Canada, advocacy has become a call to action for farmers, ranchers, dairymen, etc. Organizations like Ag More Than Ever were founded to focus on advocacy and enabling producers to tell their story.
The advocacy stable has many personalities and one of the best is Ryan Goodman. I met Ryan in 2010 and have always enjoyed his real and practical approach. Ryan is not “rah rah” — he applies advice that any producer can use.

At the Saskatchewan Stock Growers meeting in Regina, Ryan and I had a chance to discuss advocacy, how it has evolved and why leaving a positive image of the industry is more important than winning an argument. Much of the advocacy message has been centred around social media because it connects producers directly with the consumer on a global stage. One slight problem — not all producers want to be on twitter, facebook, instagram or snaphat (I don’t even want to be on snapchat).
