Inspired by the Canola Council of Canada’s work to encourage best management practices to meet customer expectations, Cereals Canada has launched its own Keep it Clean — Cereals campaign.
“Rather than creating a stand-alone but similar brand, Cereals Canada has worked with the Canola Council of Canada to present a consistent message to producers across commodities,” said Dahl, president of Cereals Canada, at the time of the announcement. “This is an example of industry cooperation that benefits every part of the value chain.”
The campaigns focus on the importance of meeting export standards by: following practices that avoid mycotoxin growth, knowing the market implications of all crop production products, and following the label when applying crop production products.
“If a label says it shouldn’t be applied while the crop is higher than 30% moisture — as is the label on glyphosate — then it should not be applied when the crop is above 30% moisture,” Dahl said, in an interview with RealAgriculture’s Kelvin Heppner, adding that “there are no circumstances” where it is acceptable to go off-label.
“It’s keeping the Canadian reputation for consistency and quality, but most importantly for grain safety — this really is a safety issue,” Dahl said.
He believes the Keep it Clean campaign speaks to one of the most important issues facing Canada’s grain and oilseed sector.
