Wheat School: 'Real' Wheat Farmers – Mark McLean

by

Do you know a “real” wheat farmer? If not, agronomist Peter Johnson is going to introduce you to some of Ontario’s finest wheat growers in the upcoming episodes of Real Agriculture’s Wheat School.

In this episode, Wheat Pete travels to Ripley, Ontario to talk with Brucelea Poultry’s Mark McLean. He takes wheat seriously and shares his management approach on everything from weed control and fertility to seeding rates and fungicides. Farming near Lake Huron with its microclimates and soil that runs from sand to heavy clay can be challenging, says McLean. He’s optimistic that good management will help him reach his yield goal of 150 bushels per acre for 2017.
