The inaugural “Canada’s Agriculture Day” is slated for Thursday, with celebrations of Canadian agriculture planned in communities across the country.

In Alberta, organizers of an event called “Meet in the Middle” are bringing together 150 millennials for a five-course meal and conversation about food in the Willow Lane Barn near Olds.

As Terry Andryo, ATB Financial’s senior agricultural marketing manager, explains in the interview below, the guest list consists of up-and-comers, half of whom come from an agricultural background and half whom don’t. All of them are in the “millenial” (35 to 40 and under) age category.

“If anybody is going to make change to the way food is looked at, or the way it’s grown or harvested, it would be the next generation coming up, so we really focused it on the millennial generation,” he says.

Each course will feature Alberta-grown food prepared by a different local chef and paired with a craft beverage from a local brewery or distillery.
