A Map to the (Grain Farmer) Stars

by

Grain Farmers of Ontario recently launched a new, virtual “meet your farmer” through its Good in Every Grain initiative.

Building off of last year’s start on farmer profiles, 2017 marks a year-long foray into meet and greets with 52 Weeks of Your Farmers:www.GoodinEveryGrain.ca/YourFarmers. Each week, a new Ontario grain farmer is profiled on the site. The profiles include photos of the farmer, information about their farm, as well as personal information to help the non-farming public relate to each farmer. The profiles are then mapped (see image) so Ontarioans can always find a farmer local to them.

A new farmer profile will be added each week for the #YourFarmers campaign

“By showing the public the faces and stories of our Ontario grain farmers, we hope to help bridge the gap between the non-farming public and farming communities,” says Meghan Burke, manager of communications, Grain Farmers of Ontario. “Much of the urban population has limited access to farming – we want to give everyone a chance to know farmers and feel comfortable reaching out to farmers when they have questions about how grains are grown, harvested, and used.”

Every week in 2017, Good in Every Grain will share a new farmer profile on its website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed. The program can be followed on social media by searching the hashtag #YourFarmers.
