Conservative Party of Canada leadership candidate Maxime Bernier performed very well in the leadership debate held at the Manning Conference over the weekend according to many delegates, but Canadian dairy farmers were left rather concerned. Not surprisingly, Bernier maintained his stance of being against supply management for dairy, egg and poultry sectors.
On Friday afternoon Bernier confirmed what he has been saying all along by Tweeting the following:
I want to allow Canadian dairy, egg and poultry producers to be able to export to the US and abolish supply management. Do it for consumers.

Many dairy farmers responded to Bernier via Twitter to echo their dissatisfaction with his view on supply management.
It may have been easier for dairy farmers to shrug off Bernier and his anti-supply management stance when people thought he was a long-shot, but after the weekend’s debates, it appears that he may be a real contender for the CPC leadership.
