Deere Rolls Out Carbon Fibre Spray Booms

by

Strong, durable and lightweight. Those are the words John Deere is using to describe its new carbon fibre spray booms.

John Deere has been working for years on ways to substitute the composite material for the steel and aluminum traditionally used in farm equipment. After years of testing, the new 120- and 132-foot carbon fibre booms were publicly unveiled last week at the 2017 National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Kentucky.

In this video, John Deere product manager Jason Beuligmann explains that the lightweight boom, which weighs 35% less than traditional booms, will help minimize crop and soil impact.

The booms are corrosion resistant and the simple design makes them easy to clean and maintain. The company claims using the 132-foot boom can increase spraying productivity by 8% compared to the 120-foot boom. That means fewer passes to finish the field, adds Beuligmann.

John Deere dealers will be taking orders for the new features beginning in June.
