Sometimes when you respond to someone attacking you verbally you need to communicate in a way that will resonate with the people you are trying to influence. Due to the creation of the term “fake news” by Donald Trump, this term has become mainstream but it resonates with people. Trump followers have rallied around it. In the case below, the NCBA is trying to talk directly to those same Trump followers who are also for the most part its check off contributors.
Back in December the Blaze’s Tomi Lahren ran some videos with R-Calf’s Bill Bullard ranting about the need for MCOOL (Mandatory Country of Origin Labelling) to be reinstated to protect family ranchers across America. With the Blaze being an ultra right wing website and R-Calf being so protectionist it does make them strange bed fellows.
This week Tomi was back at it again slamming beef lobbyists and packers for supposedly executing a conspiracy against family owned feedyards and ranchers. At the end of the video Tomi encouraged her viewers to tweet Donald Trump and let him know he needs to have all US beef labelled in a mandatory fashion. A couple of her videos in late 2016 claimed Canadian beef was pumped with antibiotics and delivered to the United States in crates…….
“Our beef is coming in on a ship from god knows where”
The NCBA with their VP of Government Relations Colin Woodall recreated a rebuttal to her misinformed claims by giving her a taste of her own medicine. The NCBA video plays Tomi’s points and then stamps her “fake news” followed by Woodall rebutting the points.
For a national checkoff organization this response is somewhat unconventional but in my opinion it is very effective.
Then this morning I see R-Calf has created a video with their leader Bill Bullard to discuss how the NCBA is not being entirely truthful about their packer affiliation and lobbying efforts. If the embed does not work below, CLICK HERE to see the video.
Even going back to the first videos in late 2016, I have found it so odd that R-Calf an organization that has received no facetime from a republican government, seems to at times have more influence in Conservative ranks than NCBA. These are times when traditional alliances have been turned on their heads.
