Canadian Dairy XPO Attendance Tops 16,000

by

Dairy producers from across Canada and around the world helped the Canadian Dairy XPO (CDX) establish a record attendance earlier this month.

Overall, attendance at the Stratford, Ont., dairy industry trade show surpassed 16,000, breaking the attendance record of 14,900, set last year. Those are huge numbers considering there are about 15,000 dairy farms in all of Canada, says CDX general manager and founder Jordon Underhill

The WeCover Cow Coliseum continues to be the hub of dairy innovation and hospitality at the Canadian Dairy XPO.

One of the keys to success for CDX is the presence of global dairy companies from more than 30 countries. “Our international exhibitor participation continues to increase,” says Underhill who notes that 20% of the show’s 350 exhibitors are international participants.

“We continue to see international companies either exhibiting or walking the XPO to get a pulse on the vibrant Canadian dairy industry,” he says.

“With five successful years behind us, we see tremendous opportunity for the continued growth of international partnerships to ensure Canadian dairy producers are efficient and sustainable for generations to come.”

The education program continues to be a big draw for producers. This year the Dairy Classroom featured The Incredible Dr. Pol; a presentation on the Purina CowSignals management program; a heifer calf development panel; tactical business presentations; an ultrasound workshop with Canadian veterinarian Tom Wheal; and, international dairy tours from the Global Dairy Farmers, based out of the Netherlands.

Brian Anderson who farms at Stratford, Ont., believes attending CDX is a great opportunity for his family and his employees. “We are passionate in this industry and it’s important to stay current with our training,” said Anderson while attending the show. “Our younger employees are here to take in the CowSignals training. This is just the thing to encourage them to gain experience and understanding of the cows.”

The WeCover Cow Coliseum continues to be the hub of dairy innovation and hospitality, explains Underhill. Global companies such as Mueller and Madero made their XPO debut in the coliseum this year. The coliseum also featured four of the top milking robotic manufacturers in the world – Lely, BouMatic, GEA and DeLaval – showcasing the latest in robotic milking automation.

“Here at CDX, when I look around, the future of the industry looks exciting, promising and progressive,” says Clinton-based producer John Brand while visiting the show. “Seeing the range of ages, technology and everything we need to use daily on our farms is exciting.”

The Canadian Dairy XPO returns to Stratford in 2018 on April 4 and 5.
