Canola Eat Well celebrates Canada’s 150th birthday

“Canola is a great Canadian product. We are celebrating it!”

This year marks Canada’s 150th anniversary, and at Manitoba’s CanolaPalooza, it was echoed throughout the day that canola has been an important part of Canadian agricultural history.

“You are celebrating Canadian food and farmers when you buy canola products, and that’s 43,000 farmers across Canada,” explains Ellen Pruden, education and promotions director with Manitoba Canola Growers and Canola Eat Well. “And we need to celebrate that. It’s an incredible piece that not a lot of people know. It’s a Canadian product.”

She adds that not only is canola oil a delicious ingredient to have in your kitchen, but it provides health benefits as well — benefits that canola growers should be proud of.

“Canola oil has low saturated fats, high monosaturated fats – thats really good for your heart – and it has omega 3’s. So it kind of covers so many amazing health benefits right in the kitchen. And you know, more importantly, it supports Canadian farmers. “
