Ottawa formally launches consultations on NAFTA 2.0 negotiation

With President Trump notifying Congress and kicking off the 90-day countdown to when negotiations for updating the North American Free Trade Agreement could begin, the Canadian government has formally announced it is seeking the views of Canadians on the trade deal and what’s in it or not in it (ie. rules for online commerce).

Global Affairs Canada announced the launch of consultations in the June 3rd Canada Gazette, inviting “all interested persons to provide information and views on the update and modernization of NAFTA.”

The deadline for submitting input is July 18, about a month before NAFTA renegotiations are expected to begin.
