Case IH unveils equipment changes and additions for 2018

by

Case IH announced several changes and additions to its equipment lineup for 2018 on Monday.

The Case IH Trident 5550 liquid/dry combination applicator is billed as the fastest converting combination applicator on the market, changing from liquid to dry and back to liquid during the growing season.

“Other so-called combination applicators simply are adaptations of an existing spray rig or other application equipment,” said Mark Burns, Case’s application equipment marketing manager. “The Trident 5550 is an all-new, single-chassis applicator that quickly converts from liquid to dry and back to liquid, making it a valuable piece of equipment across three seasons of use.”

The new Steiger CVXDrive tractors are available in 17 configurations, including Quadtrac, RowTrac and wheeled machines.

Case also announced it’s putting a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the CVXDrive, in its Steiger 4-wheel-drive tractors, up to 605 peak horsepower.

“The Steiger is the first continuously variable transmission to be offered in a 4WD articulated tractor and delivers the highest horsepower available on the market,” said Mitch Kaiser, Steiger tractor marketing manager. “This powerful package gives operators even greater control and productivity year-round over a traditional powershift tractor — from row crop applications such as planting and nutrient management to specialty work from silage packing to laying drain tile and land reclamation. It’s one more tool producers have to optimize their operation.”

The company says it’s upgrading its Maxxum series tractors, with a new ActiveDrive 8 transmission and other enhancements to “handle the day-to-day demands of beef, dairy and row crop operations.”

New product announcements like this have usually been made at or right before the U.S. Farm Progress Show in late August, but both Case IH and John Deere have now made significant 2018 lineup announcements in June and July, perhaps to build up hype leading up to the major U.S. machinery show. We’ll have more here on RealAg on these new machines from Decatur, Illinois August 29-31.
