The Canadian Seed Trade Association (CSTA) has appointed Dave Carey as its new executive director.

Previously CSTA’s director of government affairs and policy, Carey joined the national seed trade organization in 2012.

“Dave Carey is widely recognized for his ability to build strong relationships with all government parties, stakeholders and industry partners, and brings a strong collaborative approach and leadership style to the association, which will no doubt benefit all those involved with the organization,” said CSTA president Brent Derkatch in a news release. “The Board of Directors is incredibly pleased to have Dave as the new Executive Director of CSTA. Carey’s vision, energy, and strategic forethought will help to lead CSTA through this next stage of growth. He demonstrates a keen commitment to ensuring the association’s value proposition continues to meet membership needs.”

“I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead such a dynamic and trusted organization,” said Carey. “I look forward to working closely with the staff, Board of Directors and our value chain partners to ensure that CSTA’s members can continue to innovate, trade and deliver value to their farmer customers.”

Prior to joining CSTA, Carey worked as a legislative assistant for MPs from Calgary, Alberta and Oakville, Ontario.

Carey replaces Crosby Devitt, who stepped down in spring to rejoin Grain Farmers of Ontario as vice president, overseeing GFO’s research, market development, communications, and wheat marketing departments.

Carey’s appointment is effective July 7th, 2017.
