Beef School, Ep 6: The Impact of Nutrition on Performance & Carcass Quality

by

Quality in…Quality out

What you feed an animal it is important to achieve the maximum performance of that animal in the feedyard. everyone chases performance. There are many feed input options from oats to triticale to rye to DDG’s to corn.

According to Dr. Darryl Gibb of Gowans Feed Consulting “You push for performance and cross your fingers on carcass quality.”

You are always looking to drive performance because that is the real economics of the feedyard. Typically we all thought that the final stage of feeding impacted carcass quality the most but recently scientists have been finding that how cattle are fed early in their life can impact the final quality of their carcass even more.

So what impact does feeding corn have on the feeding performance of a beef animal and what are the impacts on the final carcass quality. In this edition of the Beef School, Jason chats with Dr. Darryl Gibb about achieving performance and the carcass quality considerations.
