RealAg Radio, August 29: NAFTA tensions, downtrending canola and methane-powered tractors

by

Tuesday’s edition of RealAg Radio, hosted by Shaun Haney — highlights:

  • We’re continuing to see backdraft out of President Trump’s administration on the North American Free Trade Agreement. Both Canada and Mexico appear to be committed to the actual negotiations, avoiding social media drama.
  • Alanna Koch, SK’s deputy minister to the premier, has decided to run for the leadership of the Saskatchewan Party and Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Lawrence MacAulay has retained his title after a shuffle in the federal cabinet.
  • The dairy controversy continues – “Both the Mexicans and U.S. producers and processors understand that Canada has to open up its markets, and I think there are deep concerns about this new marketing scheme…” – Tom Vilsack, on Marketing Report (Rural Radio 147).
  • Clubroot has now been found in northwestern SK.
  • Jon Driedger discusses the StatsCan report due out on Thursday (are these reports ‘garbage’? or do they provide value?) and explains what’s up with the downtrending canola market.
  • RealAgriculture’s Kelvin Heppner is in Illinois for Farm Progress Show. Tune in for details.  On twitter? Follow @realag_kelvin and #FPS17 for updates.
