Every month the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) releases a flash report on new tractor and combine sales in Canada and the United States. Data released this week represents sales up until the end of August 2017.

The Canadian market is showing superior strength in comparison to the U.S.. Below are the Canadian numbers, which show a 18.1% YTD increase in tractors, with combines up 35.9%. In fact, the only YTD category that is negative is 100HP+ tractors.

By comparison, the American AEM flash report shows tractor sales are up only 5% year to date and combines are down 5.1% year to date.

We saw back in August that equipment dealers in North America completed an AEM survey saying that 43% feel they have too much new inventory on their lots. This was down from the prior year where 62% thought they had too much inventory in 2016.

We will watch closely to see if the improved sentiment on inventory levels at the dealership level will lead to better sales in the U.S. for the remaining months of 2017.
