The public caught their first glimpse of Case IH’s new 2140 Early Riser at the Farm Progress Show in Illinois last month.
The new pivot-fold planter succeeds the 1245, offering 400 gallons of liquid fertilizer capacity, 80 bushels of seed capacity, and split-row configuration options.
“The 2140 Early Riser is two planters in one efficient machine,” says Tony McClelland, Case IH planter marketing manager. “Whether planting corn in level fields or soybeans in contoured terrain with twists and turns, the planter delivers consistent depth and seed placement for unmatched accuracy.”
The planter, which is capable of sowing at speeds up to 10 miles per hour (dependent on field conditions), offers a tool-free transition from corn to soybeans, and was designed with durability in mind.
“Part of the durability is for tough conditions, which includes high speed,” says McClelland. “So, not only the row unit, but we wanted the frame to be able to handle that and manage that, and keep the row units in the ground, and be durable over time as well.”
Another major change the 2140 brings to market is how it carries on headland turns, he explains.
“When we lift up on a headland now, there’s wing-wheels on the front of the toolbar, that are on a hydraulic cylinder, so the wings are basically carrying their own weight as you make a turn on the end,” says McClelland.
The new load distribution removes up to 8800 pounds of weight from the centre of the toolbar, lowering compaction, reducing rutting issues and increasing stability. In addition, the flexpoints are 30″ inboard, offering 17 degrees of wing flexibility for variable terrain.
The 2140 Early Riser is one of three models being rolled out in the 2000 series. It will be available in all six configurations — featuring 15-, 20-, and 22-inch spacing in wheeled or tracked options — by 2019. For next spring, it is available in wheeled options.
