Standard Nutrition Canada acquired by La Coop federee

Quebec-based cooperative La Coop fédérée is expandings its presence in Western Canada, announcing the acquisition of Standard Nutrition Canada.

Headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Standard Nutrition Canada sells animal nutrition products and services in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Formed in 2004 after the amalgamation of Standard Nutrition USA’s Canadian operations and Max Pro Feeds of Winnipeg, Standard Nutrition Canada operated under the umbrella of Omaha, Nebraska-based Standard Nutrition USA. The U.S. business is not part of the transaction.

“Partnering with La Coop fédérée, a true Canadian ag industry powerhouse, is now the occasion to kick-start our growth plan for the decade to come, with the mutual goal of supporting Canadian agricultural producers,” notes Jason McNaughton, president and general manager of Standard Nutrition Canada, in a statement issued Tuesday.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but both companies say the deal is final, with all of Standard Nutrition Canada’s operations now integrated within La Coop fédérée’s agribusiness division.

La Coop fédérée’s existing business in Western Canada includes its Agrico crop input distribution network, the Olymel pork processing plant in Red Deer, Alberta, and hog production in Alberta and Saskatchewan through Olymel’s subsidiary Olysky.

Standard Nutrition Canada has around 70 employees across the three prairie provinces. Facilities included in the Standard Nutrition Canada acquisition include the following:

  • Feed processing and grain-handling facilities and retail store in Winnipeg, Manitoba
  • Retail store and warehouse in Brandon, Manitoba
  • Premix facility, warehouse and retail store in Lethbridge, Alberta
  • Retail stores, offices and warehouses in Red Deer, Alberta, and Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
