There was an expectation that U.S. sales of farm machinery would improve in 2018 but not necessarily that Canadian sales would be weaker. Yet, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ (AEM) flash report for April, Canadian sales of tractors and combines have been weaker this year than last.

Note: the numbers are based on deliveries within the given month.

Canadian sales of self-propelled combines are down 5.3% and 4WD tractors are down 6.8%, while 2WD tractor sales are up 5.2% in in comparison to 2017. In April, 2WD drive tractors were up 5.4%, 4WD tractors down 28.2% and self-propelled combines were up 9.2% in comparison to the same month last year.

In the U.S., self-propelled combines saw a massive April, up 58.9% over 2017, bringing year-to-date numbers up 21.2% compared to last year.
