Farmers and area residents rallied to bring water to volunteer firefighters battling a grain elevator fire in Crystal City, Man. on Monday.
The fire, which started in the late afternoon, destroyed a wooden Paterson Grain terminal, as well as a hardware and farm equipment business a block away, Cudmore Bros, in the small south-central Manitoba community.
STARS Air Ambulance was also called to the scene. It’s reported a man in his 30s was transported to hospital in Winnipeg, and is in stable condition.
Farmers from the area — some of whom organized on Twitter — brought water to supply the firefighting effort and helped fire crews in wetting down nearby buildings.
Sad day at Crystal City. Lost our elevator and local retail business. Big thanks to all the volunteer firefighters and folks that brought water. pic.twitter.com/wqPj74ysUp

? Great local effort from miles around, 5-6 fire departments, at least a dozen maybe 2-3 dozen farmers hauling water. A few buildings lost but it could have been much worse without a great response. pic.twitter.com/7iYUn6LaRr

Fire contained, some small damage around town farm, supply store burnt and the 1 elevator is gone also. Could been so much worse. Someone mentioned 20+ water trucks. Pretty cool to see small town come together. pic.twitter.com/wKqT19FUTT
