RealAg Radio, Sept 21: Diversifying trade, U.S. cattle on feed and a quiet NAFTA week is a good thing

Today on RealAg Radio, host Shaun Haney opens the show by reading an email from a listener who is finding it difficult to enjoy harvest.

Jessika is at the Canadian Farm Writers national meeting in Winnipeg, so Shaun renames the top ag news stories of the the day, “news without Guse”! The top stories feature the impact of the Quebec election on trade talks, China cutting import tariffs and whether this includes Canada, the possibility of soybean laundering to escape Chinese tariffs on American soybeans and the University of Calgary being gifted a 19,000 acre ranch.

In a product spotlight, Graham Collier of Nufarm discusses fall weed control options as colder nights set in for many growers in Western Canada.

Anne Wasko of the Gateway Livestock Exchange gets us up to speed on the cattle markets in the Beef Market Update.  Shaun and Anne discuss the US cattle on feed report, US and Canadian cash prices for the week, how pasture conditions have caused much higher placements than a year ago and what impact beef recalls have on consumer demand.

With the NAFTA talks finally having a bit of a quiet week, Jim Wiesemeyer of Pro Farmer discusses why a quiet week may be an indication that talks are nearing an end. Jim also explains that the timeline is now really dictated by Canada, and not the White House.
