RealAgriculture’s Kelvin Heppner was in Boone, Iowa attending the Farm Progress Show where he had the opportunity to talk to Andreas Saile, CLAAS product manager, about the new 5300 Quadrant.
Saile says, “This is the new machine replacing the 3300 it’s the three by four big square baler called the 5300 now. We offer that machine in a ROTOFEED, so no-cutter version, ROTOCUT, and as a fine cut version with 51 knives and group selection.”
For those who liked the 3300, Saile adds they do not have to worry CLAAS threw the baby out with the bathwater. “We’ve kept a bunch of proven features, from the 3300 … For example the PFS auger but also our hydraulic controlled pre-chamber.”
According to Saile, the 5300 has sensor controls that differentiate it from the competition and help the operator make better bales.
“What we have with that machine now is APC, (automatic pressure control). That means the driver just sets the density he wants to have in the cab and then the baler adjusts automatically depending on the conditions. We have one sensor in the mainframe to basically sense the deflection of the mainframe and then additional sensors on the knotters and they sense the twine load.”
Saille says they have also improved the knotter. “Another feature we have with that machine is our new CLAAS HD II single twine knotter.” According to Saile, it also takes advantage of new sensor technology. “You can also add to that our knotter monitoring system which basically shows you in the cab what’s going on with the knotters.”
There is also an optional scale which will give the operator real time weights in the cab of the tractor.
