Elmer’s unveils grain cart with improved operator comfort and more capacity

It’s smart to think of the farmer when you’re building equipment for farmers. If equipment is made to work only in fair weather, on flat surfaces, and otherwise perfect conditions, pretty soon the farmer is pulling their hair out because the entire operation has come to a halt over a $12 bearing or a 30 cent washer.

With that in mind, Elmer’s Manufacturing unveiled the new Haulmaster 2000 grain cart on the eve Agri-Trade, being held this week at Red Deer, Alta. RealAgriculture’s Dale Leftwich had a chance to catch up with Mike Friesen, vice president and general manager of Elmer’s, at the show to talk about this new cart.

In the video below, Friesen walks through the new features of the grain cart, and the importance of making sure if problems arise there is still a way to get the job done.

Friesen explains what is new with this version of the Haulmaster: “Some key characteristics that we were focusing on were lower design for more comfort for the combine operator and the grain cart driver, increased capacity and unloading capacity,” he says There are also some advanced features, but they’ve been designed to be very simple to use, Friesen says.

Even the joystick has been given some attention. “We have added a four-way spout with a very tactile joystick control. So it’s a thumb joystick and it’s proportional so it moves just as slightly as you move it,” he says. The cart also comes with available right or left hand unload.

The grain cart has been designed with several redundancies so that you can continue to work even when things do not go quite according to plan. As Friesen points out, “The grain cart is a very critical part of the harvesting operation and you can’t let combines sit as a result of any of these little malfunctions.
