From Proxima projectors to smartphones: a look back at 20 years of FarmTech

by

It’s been just over a week since the 20th anniversary edition of FarmTech took place in Edmonton, Alta. The event was another success according to Rick Taillieu, who’s been on planning committee for the entire 20 years, adding it was no surprise it sold out once again.

Taillieu chuckles when he thinks back to the early days of the event – things like borrowing Proxima projectors and screens from various commodity groups to bring to the venue and then having to instruct the presenters how to use them. Fast-forward twenty years and it is all handled by professional AV contractors. “Its been fun to watch the show grow, evolve, and improve over time,” he says.

Taillieu notes he hasn’t been hearing negative comments from producers. The FarmTech crew prides itself on hosting a positive experience for all and he feels they have achieved that again this year.

“People are talking about moving forward, and this year, talking about solutions to challenges instead of dwelling on the problems … people come to visit with other people and have a good time, so it’s a very very positive atmosphere every year, and I think that’s a big part to why people come back year after year,” he says.

When Taillieu looks forward to next year, he says producers can expect great keynote speakers again along with the continuation of farmer panels. They’ve found farmers really want to hear from their peers about the challenges they face and how they overcome them.
