Bourgault Tillage Tools introduces 30-foot weed clipper

A few years ago, Bourgault Tillage Tools, known for their diverse range of “ground engaging tools,” introduced an implement that works above the soil.

“In 2018, we introduced a 50-foot weed clipper machine, and this is a machine that enables any farmer – conventional or organic – to drive into seeded crops at any crop height, and be able to quickly and efficiently cut and mulch any weeds growing above the crop to within a half-inch or an inch of the crop,” says Joseph Bourgault.

This year, the company expanded the options available with two 30-foot machines, one for dry land farming and another for 30- and 36-inch row crops.

The implement is designed to stop weeds from interfering with crop growth, and can be used to clip and mulch from crop heights of four to 45 inches.

“Of course you’re not getting the weeds that are below the crop canopy, but from my experience on the farm with that, those aren’t the weeds that really create a problem.”

In heavy and medium weed infestations, the weed clipper can work at up to 5 mph, and faster in light infestations.
