Double-shoot disc drill allows seed and fertilizer to be placed in one pass

While getting into the harvest season may be top of mind for many farmers right now, numerous seeders and planters were highlighted at Ag in Motion, as producers look forward to 2020.

One of the drills that was showcased was New Holland’s P2082 double-shoot air disc drill, which was released in 2018, but saw it’s first growing season this year.

With 30-, 40-, 50-, and 60-foot options that provide 10-inch row spacing, Jason Hardy, global product manager with New Holland says the design of the drill is all about productivity since it allows fertilizer and seed to be placed at the same time.

“It has a very fast seeding rate — up to 7.5 to 8 miles per hour,” he says. “There’s a lot of advantages that come with this product, but the optimum seed to fertilizer placement is the big point that we are trying to get across.”

Since there are different options for sizing, and air carts, the price of the drill ranges anywhere from $250,000 to $700,000, but as Hardy notes,  the drill provides a chance at a higher yield outcome.

“This product compared to a lot of the seeding products you will see here at the show site has the ability to consistently place the seed and fertilizer in a very distinct band in the soil. This gives better emergence — even emergence — and also at the end of the day a better-looking crop, and a higher yield for most of our customers.”
