Manitoba livestock producers temporarily allowed to cut, graze additional Crown land

by

Citing the lack of moisture over the past few months, the Manitoba Government has announced it will be allowing livestock producers to temporarily let their livestock graze, and cut hay on Crown land not typically used for agriculture.

“Under certain circumstances, Crown land can be made available for agricultural use,” the statement reads.

According to a news release, the Agricultural Crown Lands Leasing program will administer the use of available land and provide necessary permits. Livestock will have to be removed by October 31 or when there is no longer forage. Hay can be baled up until November 15.

Those who have AgriInsurance contracts and intend to put their crop to alternate use are required to contact the Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation office to arrange a field appraisal prior to harvesting. Manitoba Agriculture is also advising those who have crop residue, to consider making it available to livestock producers.
