Consumers are demanding premium beef: Costco Canada

by

Costco Canada is asking producers for more, high-quality Canadian beef.

Chris Tindall, AGMM fresh meats for Costco, presented to attendees of the Canadian Beef Industry Conference in Calgary last week, discussing how industry can build alliances with producers, the needs of the beef industry, and the desire to grow availability of AAA and Prime beef.

“I think the message has to come back from the consumers, back to the producers of what the demand is,” says Tindall, “and the demand is for a premium beef offering.” (Story continues below video.)

Tindall says Costco is committed to Canadian beef first, with its Canadian AAA program, however they will go south for USDA Choice when availability runs short.

To fill its requirements, Costco Canada needs roughly 13,000 head per week, says Tindall.
