Ontario Sheep exploring production insurance feasibility

by

Ontario Sheep Farmers (OSF) has secured funding from the AgriRisk Initiative Program under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership to investigate the feasibility of a production insurance program for the sheep industry and wants producer input for its development.

The key outcome of this project will be recommendations on whether production insurance is feasible and affordable for the sheep industry, according to the OSF.

Integral to the success of the project is engaging Ontario sheep farmers to get their input on what production risks they are concerned about and assessing their interested and potential uptake of a production insurance product. Sheep farmers are being asked to fill out a survey, and are invited to participate in three producer forum meetings being held in September.

These meetings will run:

  • September 10 in Napanee at the Lion’s Hall 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • September 11 in Lindsay at the Day’s Inn 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • September 12 in Woodstock at the Best Western 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

If you are interested in attending the producer meeting, OSF asks that you please register by contacting the office at [email protected] or 519.836.0043.
