Agritechnica: A chance for farmers to see the future

by

Excitement is building for Agritechnica — a gigantic farm equipmeent and technology show that only happens every two years in Hannover, Germany. The future-of-farming show covers nearly 98 acres and attracts hundreds of thousands of people.

Back again this year will be the RealAgriculture team of RealAg Radio host Shaun Haney and production lead Jason Stroeve.

If you’re a farmer debating on making the trip, Peter Grothues, Agritechnica managing director caught up with RealAgriculture’s Bern Tobin at the World Dairy Expo to explain why one should attend.

“We’re the meeting place in the middle of Germany for customers from all over the world,” Grothues says. “I think (farmers) see all the companies that display their machinery, new technology, new digital innovation especially because digital management is going forth, and I think they’re going to learn not only from the exhibitions but also from their colleagues as farmers from all over the world (come to the show).”

He adds there are special meeting places designed for farmers from around the world to meet at and discuss everything from crop conditions, to new technology they’re implementing on their farm, or even politics.

“Farmers actually trust farmers, more or less, that’s why industry is picking up more farmers as (spokes people) to give advice to (other farmers).”

More than 450,000 people are expected to walk through the show grounds during the six day event. Tobin points out, at the show in 2017, there was a huge focus on robotics and as Grothues explains, automation and robotics is part of the future of agriculture, so show goers can expect to see a lot more of that, too.

“We see more innovations coming out (every year) and this year we have 39 innovation winners and we’ve got a fully-automatic electrical gear platform from John Deere that’s winning a gold medal this year.”

The RealAg team leaves in just over one month, and if you can’t make it, and have something you’d specifically like covered, email Shaun at [email protected].
