Dairy milking parlour maker DeLaval has taken a new approach to moving cows efficiently through the milking process.
DeLaval’s P500 parallel parlour showcases the company’s efforts to reduce the size of parlour footprints, making it a strong choice for both new builds and retrofits, says DeLaval market solutions manager Pat Wiltzuis.
Last week at the World Dairy Expo at Madison, Wisconsin, Wiltzuis explained how the P500’s three cow-flow control options and the elimination of floor sequence gates help move cows calmly and quickly through milking and enhance cow comfort.
The P500 features an open-bottom neck rail with no obstructions. Its design promotes free-cow flow for optimum throughput, offers better indexing of mixed herds, and accommodates a 30 percent smaller footprint, notes Wiltzuis. Ceiling heights can be as low as 96 inches. (Story continues after the video.)
The new parlour design features independently controlled, suspended, non-overlapping sequence gates, which also lift up during milking to minimize stress on cows and components, adds Wiltzuis. This design and process creates a quieter environment that can speed up cow-exit cycle times by 56 percent.
The P500 also comes with SynchroControl, a program that puts the operation of the milking system at the producer’s fingertips, says Wiltzuis. This feature makes it possible to configure multiple indexing management styles, contributing to the parlour’s safe, comfortable and efficient operation.
