New Holland celebrates 45 years of Twin Rotor combines with 2020 model improvements

Next year will mark 45 years since New Holland originally introduced its Twin Rotor combine in 1975, the TR70 with 145-168 horsepower. To honour the occasion, the company will roll out significant upgrades to its CR Series of combines.

Luiz Miotto, combine product marketing manager for New Holland, North America, says the 2020 models will feature best-in-class grain quality, with the lowest losses and increased capacity through the IntelliSense system.

New Holland’s IntelliSense is an automatic combine setting system capable of selecting the best settings out of 280 million possibilities. The information from various sensors is analyzed by the computer and adjustments can be made every 20 seconds, following the strategy set by the farmer, such as Maximum Capacity or Best Grain Quality, Miotto says.

The 2020 models include the CR8.90 with a Cursor 13 engine and 571 peak horsepower (up 54 horsepower from 2019) and the CR7.90 with a Cursor 9 engine and 460 peak horsepower. (Story continues after the video)

New Holland cites research done by the Prairie Agriculture Machinery Institute (PAMI), that showed that on a 5,000-acre farm (2,500 wheat and 2,500 canola), operating the New Holland CR combine translates into $23,000 in total savings to the grower, or $4.60 per acre, due to faster harvesting and lower combine losses.

“This is truly our best combine yet for green stem soybean harvesting,” says Miotto. “Our focus is that the operator gets the highest yield possible from their fields even in the most challenging conditions, with maximized power, capacity, grain quality and uptime. These features, along with low grain losses, result in more grain in the bin, protected from weather, for more sustainable and profitable harvesting.”
