Today’s episode of the show is a special one, recognizing World Mental Health Day. First, a shout-out to some programs and resources developed for rural and farming communities (links below the audio), then, interviews with:
- Dr. Andria Jones-Bitton, University of Guelph, who talks mental health, how it impacts farms across Canada, and what we can do to tackle it head-on, in an episode of Mind Your Farm Business; and
- Kim Keller, co-founder of Do More Ag Foundation, joins Fit Farmer hosts Shaun Haney and Gary Chambers, to discuss mental health fitness.
RealAg Radio airs every weekday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. MT) on Rural Radio 147 on SiriusXM.
A few of the dedicated programs mentioned in this episode include: Ontario’s L&A Farmer Wellness Program; PEI’s Farmer Assistance Program; Saskatchewan’s Farm Stress Line; and Manitoba Farm, Rural & Northern Support Services.
Of course there are other numerous other programs, call lines, and support groups across the country. Learn more by asking your family doctor, your local community centre, or ask someone you trust for help.
If you’re thinking of suicide, know someone who is, or if you are dealing with a loss from suicide, contact Crisis Services Canada.
In the case of an emergency, call 9-1-1.
It’s #WorldMentalHealthDay! This is your daily reminder to take care of yourself, too, and that it’s OK to not be OK. Call your doctor, if you need to, those who love you want you to. #ontag #westcdnag #cdnag #bewell #sicknotweak pic.twitter.com/rKyELPVXTl
