What do you get when you mix an enormous manure spreader with electric technology? Well, a medal for starts.
The eAutoPower gearbox e8WD for 8R tractors, developed through a partnership between John Deere and Joskin, won Agritechnica’s gold innovation award this year. The technology uses two electric motors as a continuously variable actuator, providing drive and up to 100 kW of electric power for external consumption.

According to the companies, it’s the first electro-mechanical power split gearbox in agricultural technology, and it was demonstrated in Hanover, with electric-drive in two axles on a Joskin tridem manure spreader.
For the tractor, the technology doesn’t just improve efficiency through the external use of surplus power, it also improves gearbox efficiencies and reduces maintenance costs. And as a result of the power, its powered implement counterpart sees higher traction, reduced slip, and improved track guidance on side slopes.
“I think the biggest advantage here in this case is to protect the soil, the ground, and to have much less slip than you had on bad conditions without any driven axles,” says Joskin’s Valéry Bailly, in the following video interview, filmed at Agritechnica.
