To achieve cleaner fields, identifying the right time to spray is crucial.
An early herbicide application is an effective way to get ahead of tough weeds. Using a dicamba-based system like the Roundup Ready Xtend® Crop System offers the flexibility of pre- and post-emergent applications and the ability to keep fields clean longer, thanks to dicamba’s wider application window and short-term residual activity.
In order to make the most of your herbicide application, it’s important to minimize the risk of off-target movement. Temperature inversions and high winds (greater than 15 km/h) can increase risk of herbicide drift, which in turn can lower spray efficacy and cause damage to other crops. Fortunately, finding the right time to spray just got a little easier, thanks to Bayer’s new spray forecasting tool.
Created specifically for use with the Roundup Ready Xtend Crop System, the Spray Forecast Tool provides field-level, location-specific forecasts of temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction and inversion risk. Access the webpage from any device with an internet connection for detailed hourly forecasts at your fingertips. It’s free to use and ready to help you identify favourable weather conditions, so you can plan successful applications of Roundup Xtend® and XtendiMax® herbicides, both with VaporGrip® Technology.
While the Spray Forecast Tool makes it easy to predict weather patterns that may increase your risk of herbicide drift, it’s always important to check for yourself before spraying. If you’re using the Roundup Ready Xtend Crop System, taking the following steps can help further reduce the risk of dicamba drift:
- Use nozzles that produce extremely coarse to ultra-coarse droplets
- Set your boom height to 50 cm above the crop canopy
- Maintain a ground speed of less than 25 km/h
- Ensure the wind speed is between 5 to 15 km/h
By following these guidelines, you can optimize the performance of Roundup Xtend or XtendiMax and your crop, keeping your field clean and maximizing your yield potential.
